For over 50 years, STARS has been inspiring Virgin Islanders to look up at the night sky and discover the wonders of our Universe through optical astronomy and STEAM education.
STARS endeavors to provide avenues to a deeper knowledge and understanding of our Universe through optical astronomy. STARS seeks to encourage interest in and the pursuit of STEAM careers by introducing students and parents to topics in physics, astronomy, and engineering as related to the field of astronomy.
We will provide a diverse platform of activities on which to build a robust educational environment for the study of astronomy. We will organize public outreach events, school project assistance, citizen science projects as well as cooperative projects with educational institutions such as the University of the Virgin Islands' Etelman Observatory.
It is the intent of STARS to inspire and encourage students to become interested in the pursuit of STEAM disciplines, many of which lead to fruitful and rewarding careers on the cutting edge of technological innovation.
Finally, it is our hope that STARS will inspire Virgin Islanders to stop and look up at the night sky, in all its majesty, and appreciate that our everyday experience is but a tiny fraction of our greater reality.
